Frequently Asked Questions
State Requirements Questions
What are the Continuing Education requirements?
Real Estate Appraisers are required to take 56 hours of CE every four years from the date the license was received.
Are there any specific courses required?
An appraiser, at first renewal, is required to take 42 hours of real estate appraisal continuing education (CE) and two, 7 hour USPAP updates. This will meet the 56 hours of CE required. As part of the 42 hours of CE electives, a student must take a California Laws and Regulations course or sign an affidavit stating the licensee read and understands the Laws and Regulations for the state of California. All 56 hours of CE can be taken online.
Who do I contact if I have questions about my CE requirements?

Course Completion Questions
What is required to complete the course?
You need to review all of the course content.
How do I receive my course completion certificate?
At the end of the course, you are able to print a copy of your completion certificate. You will need to keep this completion certificate in your files for license renewal purposes.
How do my hours get submitted for CE credit?
The California Office of Real Estate Appraisers (OREA) does not require schools to submit CE hours. Instead, OREA requires the licensee to submit copies of the course completion certificates with the renewal application. OREA requires this documentation to verify compliance with the education requirements. The original course certificates you receive upon completion of a course should be maintained by you and a copy submitted to OREA at licensee renewal. Failure to prove completion of the requisite education could result in a fine, suspension, or revocation of a license.
What happens if I get disconnected from the internet?
If you get disconnected from the internet, you will need to log back into your account. In this case, you will return to the lesson you were working on.
